The Show Must Go On…

We'll be out on the stage at 10pm at Rembrandt's Dutch Pub for our monthly Velvet Kittens Burlesque Revue!!
We've heard many public events have been cancelled due to the swine flu scare in the metroplex. However, rest assured, us Kittens will be taking the stage tonight. Not sickness, nor weather, nor costume malfunction could keep us from swaying, singing, teasing, or pleasing on a show night!

Show time: 10pm
At: Rembrandt's Dutch Pub (703 McKinney Ave, Dallas)
Cover: None!
~Reservations recommended, but not required~
See you tonight!

If you can't make our Rembrandt show tonight, we'll be back at Rembrandt May 23, or you can catch our weekly show Sugar Moonlight on Thursday nights at Hyena's in Dallas (Mockingbird Station).

Burlesque! Burlesque! Burlesque! Saturday Night Burlesque Show!

Our new show opens in just two days…
Sugar Moonlight: A Classic Burlesque Revue opens this Thursday at Hyena's Comedy Club in Dallas (Mockingbird Station, next door to the Angelica).
We've been counting down the top 10 reasons why you should brave a Thursday night to see Sugar Moonlight! Number 2…

Number 2: Make History
Did you know…
Since the revival of burlesque, members of the Velvet Kittens have been on the forefront of presenting burlesque into the DFW mainstream.
______________________________________________________________________
Creators of the VK (and our original cast members, many who still perform with us today) were the first to introduce an on-going, weekly mainstream burlesque show in Fort Worth, premiering in 2005.
______________________________________________________________________
Beginning back in our FTW days, the VK creator/choreographer was the first to offer on-going burlesque classes in DFW, as well as provide training and experience to many performers, instructors, and producers in burlesque in the area.
______________________________________________________________________
The VK also were first to feature re-occurring "brolesque" performers into our monthly Dallas Rembrandt shows. (If you haven't had a chance to see them, they'll be taking the stage at Saturday's show in the West End area…but no boys on the stage, just in the band, at Hyena's show).
______________________________________________________________________
The VK will be the first to offer two completely different burlesque productions simultaneously in Dallas upon the debut of Sugar Moonlight! Both monthly and weekly shows are here for your viewing pleasure!
______________________________________________________________________
This Thursday the VK will be the first to introduce a weekly, on-going mainstream burlesque show of professional performers in a nightclub floorshow with a live jazz band in Dallas!
Number 2: Be a part of not only VK history, but also the burlesque history in Dallas

To be all fair and square about it, we'll give you a quick top 10 reasons to see our Velvet Kitten Burlesque Revue at Rembrandt's Dutch Pub:
Number 10: Food, Food, Food! Delicious Rembrandt Dutch Cuisine!

Number 8: DFW's only "Brolesque" performers Danny-Boy and Pepe Calhoun
Number 7: Just couldn't get enough of the Kittens on Thursday

Number 5: The Vaudevillian-Burlesque show style of this VK Revue
Number 4: The Rembrandt Atmosphere: You just have to experience it to experience it
Number 3: Free Show (shhhh!)
Number 2: The Booze. Sure it's at every bar…but booze and burlesque, better combo.

Our new weekly burlesque show, Sugar Moonlight, opens this Thursday at Hyena's Comedy Club in Dallas (Mockingbird Station, next door to the Angelica).
We've been counting down the top 10 reasons why you should brave a Thursday night to see Sugar Moonlight!

We asked our newest Kitten, the tantalizing Stevie Swan, to give us her top reason for venturing out on a school night for some burlesque entertainment:
"To experience the excitement that can only come from a live performance in the heart of the metroplex. A live band, lively dancers and affordable drinks make for a night you won't soon forget!"
Number 3: Experience the excitement of Live Entertainment

Our new burlesque show, Sugar Moonlight: A Classic Burlesque Revue, opens THIS Thursday (May 7th). Everyday we're posting a new reason why we think you should brave a Thursday night and see Sugar Moonlight. (We're on number 4…check our older entries for 5-10…we've been counting down the 10 days before show date…as if you really need 10 reasons!)
Of course, it is the Velvet Kittens, the "It Girls of Burlesque," but we have some friends that make our show oh-that-more-spectacular! We are some lucky gals!

Number 4: The Shish Boom Band
We've talked about the music, the genius behind the pickings, but have we really talked about our band? Our A-M-A-Z-I-N-G band?? Oh, let's do.
Our band consists of an upright bass, guitar, drums, and sax. Every night these incredible musicians will be providing the music behind this brilliant burlesque showcase! They get us moving…and we bet they'll get you moving too! To hire in our fabulous, sensational house band…go to www.shishboomband.com.
You can borrow them on occasion, but every Thursday night…they are ours, baby!

Number 5: The History of Burlesque at Hyena's and Sugar's Producers
Once upon a time, in a comedy club in Fort Worth, DFW's most successful and longest running modern burlesque show to date was born. Theatrical producer and owner of Hyena's, Randy Butler, had the foresight to perceive the burlesque revival blowin' this way and hired in Jana Edele to create/choreograph/direct and eventually Daniel Totten to musically direct. After some blood, sweat and beers Hyena's Red Light Burlesque Revue debuted in 2005, and burlesque had officially returned weekly to the Wild West (or you can just call it Fort Worth). Running over a year on Friday and Saturday nights (and yup, even some Thursdays thrown in), the Red Light dancers bumped, grinded, and shimmied to the music of the house band, the Pocket Rockets. Let's take a stroll down memory lane:

Fun Fact! Hyena's downtown Fort Worth club is actually located on what used to be known as Hell's Half Acre. This scandalous area was full of dance halls, saloons, gambling parlors, and bordellos.

Read all about Hell's Half Acre here: http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/HH/hph1.html
And here: http://www.fortworthheritagetrails.com/markers/hellshalfacre.html

Totten and Edele also independently produced LCB's vaudevillian musical Cirque de Amore the following year:

We are happy to once again be uniting with Randy and Hyena's, and see this glittering burlesque production team work their spectacular magic in Sugar Moonlight, and pleased to be first to bring a weekly burlesque show to Dallas!

Our new burlesque show, Sugar Moonlight: A Classic Burlesque Revue, opens this coming Thursday (May 7th). Everyday we're posting a new reason why we think you should brave a Thursday night and see Sugar Moonlight.
Number 6: Glamour and Nostalgia
We asked our lovely siren Lola Love to share why she thinks you'll love this show. Her answer "the old Hollywood glamour and nostalgia of nightclub shows of the past." Original costuming has been designed and created by Eric Sands. Rich and vibrant colors beautify each designed dress created exclusively to enhance the Sugar Moonlight experience. Influenced by 1930's fashion and the iconic Hollywood musicals, (and a little bit of the old-school Vegas showgirl thrown in), these designs will charm a romantic nostalgia you'll want to return to every Thursday night.
We'd love to show you a peek…but aren't things always better in (or on) the flesh?
