MBS Productions - Burlesque Nutcracker Auditions!
Posted by Jana Edele | Filed under News
MBS Productions Announces auditions for:
The Beulaville Baptist Book Club Presents: A Bur-less-Q Nutcracker!
By Mark-Brian Sonna (Inspired by the Velvet Kittens of Le Cabaret Burlesque!)
This year's version will have three of the roles played by men in drag!
Needed are 3 men of various ages and 5 dancers.
(You could even play the role of "Jana," based on the creator of the Velvet Kittens)
A brief synopsis: The women of the Beulaville Baptist Book Club are in dire straits financially, and as a last ditch attempt to save their book club they decide to do a fund raiser and hire the Beaumont Ballet to perform Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker". Madge's Piña Colada Casserole unfortunately sickens the entire cast with food poisoning and they are unable to perform. Luckily, there is another dance troop in town. It seems the Velvet Kittens Burlesque Dancers are stuck in Beulaville because their van broke down on their way to New Orleans. Madge has never heard of Burlesque, or as she pronounces it "Bur-less-Q", and in an act of necessity hires the dance troupe to do "The Nutcracker". The end result? The most original, unusual, and comical Nutcracker you have ever seen!
Dancer Auditions: Saturday Oct 17 @ 3pm, Sunday Oct 18 @ 12pm
Acting Auditions: Saturday Oct 17 from 4 - 6pm, Sunday Oct 18 from 1-4pm
Call backs, if needed, will be Sunday, Oct 18 @ 5pm
Auditions will be at the rehearsal space for MBS Productions which is located at 8204 Elmbrook, suite 305 M, Dallas TX 75247.
The show will run from November 27 through December 27, 2009 at the Stone Cottage Theatre in Addison.

Q & A about our Burlesque Classes
Posted by Jana Edele | Filed under News
Some of our new students have a few questions for us. We thought we'd post a few of our answers here for any of our potential students with the same questions. If you have a question for us, contact us !
………………………………………………………………………………..
Q: Do you offer group lessons?
A: Yes, we do! contact us to schedule a group lesson, in home or at the studio!
Q: Do you have to be a serious dancer or can a novice participate in your dance classes?
A: All of our classes are structured for beginner dancers. As an adult dance class, we understand there are a variety of reasons why one takes class. Read here for the benefits of taking dance, and here about the creation and intention of our curriculum.
Q: I’d like to know if there is a class card available for someone interested in taking all of the Sat & Sun classes each of the three times they’re available.
A: As it's introductory month, our classes are offered at a discounted rate and we are not currently offering class cards for October. Having said that, we will offer a $120.00 package for unlimited weekend burlesque classes at our Dallas location for the month of October (that's 18 classes!).
Finding the Perfect Fall Look
Posted by Jana Edele | Filed under News
Brittney Powell of OMGhairstyles is an on-going sponsor to the Velvet Kittens, specializing in coloring, styling, and fusion extensions.
Brittney's got some advice on getting that perfect fall look!
………………………………………………………………………………..
The key to finding the perfect fall look for your hair type is to watch current celebrity do’s. Once you've found several looks you like, visit a salon for a professional consultation. The short, layered bob that works well on Vic Beckham may not work well with your facial structure or hair texture. Work with your stylist to develop a personalized look to maximize your hair's best impression.
Not every hair style needs to be changed radically to work well in a new season. Consider hair extensions if you're interested in a longer look. Adding layers or bangs is a great way to refresh a look as the season progresses. Highlights, reflecting the season (generally with a subtle darker shade), can be used to add depth and distinction. Because long hair is popular this year, updos are a sleek and elegant option. Throw in a head band or a fancy clip to dress up your hair for any occasion.
Whether you're interested in a back-to-school look or just want to change your style as the leaves change their colors, fall hair styles are a great way to update your look while keeping up with seasonal trends.

MBS Productions is pleased to announce that tickets are now on sale for the first play of their season:
Theatre of Death
Production includes World Premieres, New Translations & New Adaptations.
Conceived and created by Mark-Brian Sonna
An evening of seven short plays dating from the present day to as far back as the Middle Ages are linked by one common thread: Death! Laugh, cry, be startled, and scared as we present a collection of black humor plays dealing with this timeless subject.
A woman ironing reveals a secret involving the shirt she is pressing; four inept and clumsy people are trapped and they only have 13 minutes to figure out how they will survive; two brothers share a unique bond that will lead one to murder, a man discovers his wife is having affairs with three different men and decides to confront them…
October 15 - November 1, 2009
The show will be performed at the Stone Cottage Theatre, 15650 Addison Road, Addison, TX 75001.
This show launched MBS Productions back in 2004, and every two years MBS Productions brings it back with a new collection of short plays. Every time it is presented it has been hailed by critics and the press as being "elegant", "macabre", and a "must see", and this year's production has already been named as one of the top theatre events to attend in the DFW area by the Dallas Morning News.
Tickets are available at:
MBS Productions or by calling 214-477-4942
This show is rated R due to intense subject matter, language, violence, and sexual situations.
