About the Velvet Kitten Burlesque Curriculum…

A Note From Artistic Director Jana Edele

I've been involved professionally in dance for over 15 years, and have performed in over 1000 live stage shows. I've worked as a choreographer, director, producer, dancer, actor, and vocalist in the mediums of concert, corporate, commercial, theater, TV and film. I first ventured into the burlesque genre in 2003 to fulfill an interest of studying a different style of choreography and live stage show format. By 2005 I presented DFW's first modern day successful full-length, on-going burlesque revue show, and began offering burlesque classes in 2006.

As I've continued on through the years in the burlesque genre, I've occasionally offered classes. I've also continuous taught technical and traditional dance styles in dance studios as well. As I designed the VK curriculum I wanted to offer a combination of the art of movement with the art of burlesque.

I've always found my students attended burlesque classes for various reasons. For some it was for fitness, and for others the taboo or novelty of what burlesque represents. Still for others wearing multiple hats and playing various roles in their lives, this was their personal hour to be only responsible to themselves. I wanted my classes to respect all these diverse aspects, and offer a curriculum to which the student could gain so much more than just attending a class. I want my students to enjoying the benefits of dance, and the benefits of burlesque in a well-rounded program they could return to year after year. I also wanted my classes to fall into the price range of dance classes throughout the metroplex.

As a guide into your exploration of burlesque dance classes, I've supplied additional information on your journey into the study of dance.

Whether your venture into burlesque dance is an addition to a fitness regime, an exploration to the allure of the tease, a creative expression, or a place to find balance, I hope you enjoy the new Velvet Kittens Burlesque Dance Class Curriculum designed for you!
