Jessey Hughey – Dallas Observer

Burlesque Classes Begin in November

We are absolutely pleased to be offering our burlesque classes once again in the DFW metroplex! We’re also extremely excited to return to dance studios with our classes, enabling us to offer proper flooring and more open space for our burlesque divas!

We will be posting registration info next week!

Here's what we have in store for you

Classes

Kitten Classes

Learn original Velvet Kitten choreography.

"Kitten Classes" include stretching, toning, and learning dance choreography.  Month long sessions, held on weekends in our Irving location.  Learn a dance for fitness, fun, or to entertain that special someone at home!

Kitten I - If Loving You is Wrong

This first dance in our "Kitten Class" series is a great introduction to learning burlesque choreography.  Students will manifest their sexuality through muscle control and  fluid motion. This beg/intermediate dance class focuses on the dancer as a confident and in control woman. This class is a great introduction to dancing with props, and the concept of the strip tease.

Kitten II - Season of the Witch

The next dance in our "Kitten Class" series takes a step forward in embracing one's sensuality and femininity while exploring the concepts of being alluring, enticing and provocative.  The tantalizing choreography also continues the study of fluid motion and muscles control using stylized movement, while also introducing sensuous floor work in burlesque choreography.

Burlesque Basics

This class focuses on learning the basics of the burlesque style of dance.  This beg/intermediate class introduces dance terminology and execution of movement, plus body positioning.  From walking, turning, to bumps and grinds, this is a great class for dancers needing a brush up on style, as well as the student beginning their study.

Workshops

Velvet Kitten Workshops offer an opportunity for those who don't always have the time to make a weekly class schedule, as well as offer specially designed courses for those desiring to obtain burlesque training in concentrated areas of the genre.

Intro to Velvet Kitten Burlesque Class – Workshop

What really happens in a burlesque class?

We will be offering a one day Friday workshop at our Fort Worth location just to answer that question!  Beginning with stretching and toning, we'll then introduce you to the burlesque basics, as well as a small dance combination to get you familiar with what you can expect to find in the "Kitten Class" series!  This is a great way to get a feel for Velvet Kitten burlesque, and our incorporation of technical dance, as well as have a night out with your friends!

Upcoming Specialized Workshops!

We're excited to offer these marvelous courses for the burlesque diva in you!  As we practice in burlesque, we don't reveal it all!  After all, burlesque is about tease.  We've gotta keep you coming back for more…

Private Parties
Absolutely! We offer a variety of “girls night” classes from a burlesque dancing, strip tease, and private dancing!

Private Lessons
For the dancer desiring one on one training, a private lesson is the definate way to go! Whether its focusing on dance technique, stylizing, performance, or choreography, this gives us the opportunity to focus on your needs.

Burlesque Nutcracker Auditions!!

MBS PRODUCTIONS ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR

THE BEULAVILLE BAPTIST BOOK CLUB PRESENTS:
A BUR-LES-Q NUTCRACKER!

Auditions will be October 18 from noon till 6 PM. Dance auditions will commence at noon, acting auditions will begin at 2 PM. Rehearsals begin November 1. The show runs November 28 through December 21.

Acting roles available:

Sylvia – The head of the Book Club. She is intolerant, opinionated, moralistic, and hypocritical and can’t understand why the world won’t see things her way because, as she well knows, she is right about everything! Basically a bitch on heels. She has a very shady past that she doesn’t want anyone to know about. 30-50 age range.

Ramona – A very good-hearted Christian woman that is surprisingly liberal. In fact, she is so liberal she surprises herself at times (and everyone else!). Her idea of style is holiday themed sweaters – all year round. She always tries to make everyone happy even when she is annoying the crap out of everyone.

Wilma – The matriarch of the group and someone that is fond of wigs. She is either in a catatonic state when her meds are off or a hurricane of a lady. Even though she’s in her 80’s though her expensive face lift makes her look like she’s much younger. She can also be a bit blue in her language when she gets going and calls it as she sees it. This role can be played by any actress between the ages of 20-60

Madge: this role is being reprised by the original cast member

Dickey: this role is being reprised by the original cast member.

Dancer roles available (age 20’s to 30’s):

Jana: The no nonsense artistic director of the Velvet Kittens. She is the only “sane” person in this entire cast and proceeds to make commentary about the all the kooky people she is dealing with. She is ascerbic, at times sarcastic, and exceedingly funny. This role requires as much acting as dancing and the dancer/actress must be able to attend both the dance and the acting auditions.

Jessica: A morally upstanding “nice girl” till the music starts, then she is vampy, sexy, and a bit trashy.

Jill: Dumb, dumb dumb, dumb, and also sweet. She becomes Dickey’s love interest.

Jenny: a very spirited dancer with a foul mouth. Think cheerleader who drops f-bombs.

Jocelyn: A va-va-voom girl who could care less about rehearsals since she knows she has “it”.

Jacqui: shy and quiet, in fact so shy she never speaks audibly, yet when she dances her body and movements say volumes, loud volumes

Jolene: A girl from the sticks who is plain and sweet but always horny.

Petrushka: This role is being reprised by the original cast member.

To audition contact Mark-Brian Sonna at info@mark-briansonna.com or call 214-477-4942. Please indicate the role/s you are interested in. The role of Jana requires as much dancing as acting and must attend both the dancing and the acting auditions. More information about the show can be found at www. MBSProductions.net
