Brittney’s Top Hair Secrets For Winter Beauty

The Kittens would like to introduce you to Brittney Powell of OMGhairstyles and on-going sponsor to the Velvet Kittens. OMGhairstyles specializes in coloring, styling, and fusion extensions. The Kittens are a walking resume of her abilities!
For those looking to stay stylish this frosty season, follow Brittney's advice on mane winter fashions!
Popular Winter Hairstyles
Many different looks are popular in winter, and there are glamorous options available no matter what your hair length or style.
Popular looks in cold weather include:
Volume!
Adding volume to your look adds drama and balances well with more layers of bulky clothing and winter wear. Root boost sprays and volumizing shampoos can quickly add volume to a great style, while layered hair styles add textural volume.
Bangs!
Hair styles with bangs are popular in the winter because they draw attention to the eyes, frame the face, and minimize the winter pallor of the skin. Sideswept bangs can be dramatic and sexy, while a full fringe is a classic look that wears well in any season.
Long Hair!
Curly, wavy, or straight - is always popular in the winter because it wears well over bulky clothes and under winter hats while adding elegance to any look. If you don't already have long hair, you can consider hair extensions for a fast and fresh look. Flipped or layered ends, great accessories, or sleek sedu hair styles are all great long looks.
Bobs!
Bob hair styles are favorites in winter because they are quick and easy to care for and can create lovely options for shorter hair. Contemporary bobs may have heavily tapered tips for exotic flair, while a deliberately messy bob is a carefree and sexy look.
Shags!
Shag hair styles are also favorite winter hairstyles with shorter lengths. The length, layers, and texturizing of the shag can vary, and adding lowlights will create depth and dimension in the style.
Razorcuts!
Razor hair cuts are particularly popular in winter because they add cutting edge drama to a look with minimal effort. The messy texture of the style demonstrates a bold, confident personality well suited to such a bold season.

Posted by Jana Edele | Filed under News
Waited till the last minute, or just couldn't find anything appealing to your inner burlesque temptress? Here are a few last minute sexy suggestions easy to put together!
Proposal #8: The Desirable Seductress
Any man will tell you how seductive it is to see a woman in a man's shirt. Borrow this idea from our Loving You is Wrong number.
What you'll need: Man's button up white shirt, bowler hat, cane and tie.
You can wear whatever makes you feel comfortable under the white shirt, from matching bra and panties, to a corset and boy shorts. And don't forget your fishnets, lashes, and glitter! Hat, cane and tie available at most costume shops. Button up shirts can be found in most department stores, as well as Walmart and Target.
Proposal #9: The Burlesque Dancer
The Velvet Kittens are all about engaging in the art of tease
….a hip roll here, a glance over the shoulder, a sexy smile….now that's entertainment!
All you require is costuming and props to decorate the dancing enchantress in you!
Add a bowler hat, cane, boa, or any dancing prop to almost any lingerie to complete the Burlesque Dancer look!
Bianca's Suggestion
Gold sequin panties, black bra, and a black fishnet top are the basis of Bianca's costume.
Add fishnet tights, lashes, glitter, bowler hat and cane to match Bianca's fashion!
Mimi's Suggestion
Just a black bra and a pair of black panties, add your props and lashes! Bam! Burlesque Dancer!
Rose's Suggestion
Black panties, black fringe bra (from Victoria's Secret), black fishnets, and black boa are all it takes to create this Burlesque style!
We hope these Kitten tips helped you to connect with your inner burlesque diva! If you have any additional costuming questions feel free to contact us. We want you to look purrfect!
Be sure to take a picture in your burlesque creation, and
send them our way. We'd love to see them, and post them on the site!
Everyone have a safe and happy Halloween!
We'll see you November 8th for the debut of Erotique II (the Burlesque Revue).
Bump ‘n Grind Burlesque Halloween Costumes!
Posted by Jana Edele | Filed under News
As a Kitten keeping her promise, here are some delectable burlesque Halloween costuming tips from the VK.
Proposal #6: The bump €˜n grind diva!
Duplicating stripping stars of the past, here are some suggestions to achieve that Gypsy Rose Lee panache!
Kitten Tip 1 - G-strings and pasties, if you feel daring enough, is the final costuming for the stripper on stage. There are several stores in which to find these, but our ultimate recommendation is Electrique Boutique for all your burlesque costuming needs.
Kitten Tip 2 - Needing a little more coverage to feel comfortable? No prob! Here's your cheat sheet! Find a two piece made for stripping (yes, this will be a g-string bottom). It can dangle, shimmer, or sparkle…whatever strikes your fancy! Next step is finding a "base" bra and panty that matches in color. We suggest a brief for the bottom…you'll want to make sure all your "bases" are covered! Now, just put on your base, and apply the costuming over it. Tada! Instant Bump €˜n Grind Diva!
Technically the true bump €˜n grind stripper has lost all her clothing on the stage, but its Halloween! What's the point if you don't get the fun extras to play with? For low-priced accessories try costume stores first…more feather for your bump!
Kitten play toys we advocate (check previous posts on burlesque Halloween costuming for more details on where to purchase items):
Fishnets! Boas! Gloves! Lashes! Glitter!
Other props: Fans!
Feathered fans can get pretty pricey, here's a recipe for do-it-at-home fan making!
What you need: Cardboard, paint, feathers, glue.
Cut cardboard to size of fans you would like! Paint the cardboard to match the feathers. Glue the feathers! Your local Hobby Lobby should have all these materials on hand.
Proposal #7: Be your own Designer
Perhaps some of these prices are a bit out of your range, or you want something with a little more of your own flair. Kitten suggestion: Do-it-yourself!
What you'll need 1st: Matching bra and panty. We suggest clearance or Walmart for cost efficiency. Next, you'll need bits and pieces of finesse! In this Kitten costume, feathers, silver glitter glue, and Christmas beads were added. Can't sew well? Simply get a glue gun! Don't forget….let your creation set overnight before wearing.
Hopefully this will give you a good start if you’re still searching for that purrfect burlesque halloween costume! If not, we’ll be back tomorrow morning with last minute suggestions!

Velvet Kitten Proposal #5

Halloween Burlesque Costumes!
Posted by Jana Edele | Filed under News
Halloween is just a few days away! Still looking for ideas? May we propose the ever fashionable burlesque dancer for Halloween?
Looking for something a bit different, or just helpful hints on putting together your very own burlesque costume? The Kittens are pleased to not only present suggestions, but are also willing to divulge costuming secrets to assist you in discovering the purrfect burlesque costume for you! Over the next couple of days we'll be here to assist you with a variety of Burlesque Costumes.
Proposal #1: "The Classy Kitten"

Dress in the signature Velvet Kitten attire!
Here's what you need to achieve the "Classy Kitten":

1. Kitten ears!!! These can be purchased at any Halloween or costume store.
2. The signature Kitten corset: The Kittens are often seen in black, but choose the color that allures your inner Kitten. The corsets the Kittens wear can be found at any Fredericks of Hollywood store.
3. Matching panties. Sometimes we're in sequins, sometimes we're with ribbons or lace. Find which one you find irresistible! We usually purchase the Legg Avenue line of sequin panties, which can be found at a variety of costume shops. I recommend Fort Worth Costume Shop on Forest Lane, or Electrique Boutique. Lace panties are also available at these locations. Or just a simple pair of solid colored panties to match your corset can do the trick!
4. Most importantly, fishnets! Fishnets are available at a variety of locations. Try Fredericks, Electrique Boutique, Target, costume shops, stores carrying Halloween costuming, major department stores, or dance attire shops. There is a wide assortment of fishnets available on the market. If you are looking to for something more re-usable that won't easily snag, I suggest buying dance fishnets. Capezio makes a fantastic seamed fishnet that lasts forever!
5. Boots! Most the Kittens wear boots from Electric Boutique. Boots and heels can be purchased easily at most department stores as well.
6. Suggested embellishments: Cat chokers! Sometimes just a little ribbon around the neck can be the final addition to top off any burlesque costume. Adding gloves (short or long) is also a pleasant addition to the Class Kitten burlesque costume. And garter belts can be especially sexy! These can be purchased at any lingerie store. There are fishnets with the lace garter belts attached as well, and fishnets designed to attach to garter belts.
7. Fake Lashes! There are a variety of lengths, colors, and decorations available. Electrique Boutique offers a nice assortment, and these are usually available at your local shopping centers during the Halloween season.
8. Aw, the fabulous glitter! The Kittens generally obtain their ornamental body glitter at Electrique Boutique. Glitter lotions, powers, and shimmers are also fantastic and easy to apply. Victoria Secret and Fredericks are great locations to find these scented secrets. Remember: Most importantly, you'll want the shimmery body decoration, and cheaper versions work just as well. Velvet Kitten hint on applying loose glitter: avoid lotions just before applications, and avoid rubbing it on. Either gently shake it on, or have a friend blow it on. Last thing you want is a big smudge of glitter that takes forever to spread!
Kitten safety measures and suggestions…
Adding a bra to a strapless corset is a great way to ensure everything stays tucked out of sight! Pick a bra that closest fits the color of your corset. If you raise your arms in a strapless corset, be prepared to present "the girls" to friends and fellow guests.
Also, you'll want a little breathing room. Tighter looks nicer, but being able to sit comfortably is important on a fun night out!
Your sequin or lace panties just don't seem to cover enough? Wear a base panty under that covers all your goodies! Walmart has briefs in a variety of colors that are extremely inexpensive.
The Kittens will be back with more Burlesque Costuming Ideas!
